The Lauverjat family, long-established farmers in the village of Sury-en-Vaux, balance 110 hectares of grains with 13 hectares of vines in Sury-en-Vaux and Sainte-Gemme, at the heart of Sancerre. Today, Christian and his son Kevin manage the vineyards and winemaking, while Karine and their daughter Suzie oversee the family’s wine and gift shop in Sancerre. Farming sustainably, they work the soils, plant grass between rows, eschew herbicides and pesticides, and have reduced mildew treatments by 30% through the use of pulverized seaweed. Their range includes Sancerre in white, rosé, and red, highlighted by the old-vine Sauvignon Blanc “Perle Blanche,” as well as Menetou-Salon, Pouilly-Fumé, and an IGP Sauvignon. In the cellar, whites ferment in thermo-regulated tanks, reds in wooden conical vats, and a modern clay filtration system ensures purity without sacrificing character. With their thoughtful farming, careful winemaking, and resilience in sourcing fruit during tough vintages, Lauverjat produces wines that stand among the best values in the region.
