Radikon

Italy · Friuli

Stanko Radikon, a pioneering winemaker from Oslavia in Friuli’s Isonzo zone, was renowned for his uncompromising “Slovenian style” wines—hand-harvested, long skin-macerated, naturally fermented in large Slavonian oak barrels, and made without added sulfur. Rooted in his grandfather’s 1930s methods, Radikon’s estate, now 17 hectares, produces deeply expressive wines from varieties like Ribolla Gialla, Merlot, Friulano, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Pignolo. Known for rejecting amphorae, he instead innovated custom liter and half-liter bottles with unique corks for optimal aging. Since Stanko’s passing in 2016, his wife Suzana, son Saša, daughter Ivana, and extended family have upheld his philosophy while introducing the “S” wines—shorter-maceration, earlier-drinking cuvées bottled in 750ml with minimal sulfur—broadening access to the Radikon style without compromising its soul.
